Abstract: Current state, problems and prospects of plasma metallurgy are discussed. Investigations of the author and other scientists worked mainly in the former Soviet Union in the ®eld of plasma processes theory and practice are the base for the paper. A number of examples are given of successful practical application ensuring increase of productivity and improvement of ecological condition, saving of resources and energy and formation of products with speci®c properties. Special attention is given to the problem of energy and metallurgical complexes development on the basis of plasma technology
